Development of a lateral flow immunochromatography test for the rapid detection of bovine tuberculosis

Detection of specific antibodies would be a useful test strategy for bovine tuberculosis (bTB) as complement to the single skin test. We developed lateral flow immunochromatography (LFIC) rapid bTB detection based on use conjugate gold nanoparticles with recombinant G protein. After evaluating 3 Mycobacterium bovis (MB) antigens: ESAT-6, CFP-10 and MPB83 control line, we selected given it was most specific. The performance analyzed 820 sera, 40 sera corresponding healthy animals, 5 from animals infected avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) 775 herds bTB. All these were also submitted validated bTB-ELISA using whole-cell antigen MB. From bTB, 87 positive by bTB-ELISA, 45 LFIC only positives (TST). To confirm infection in group TST (?), (+) performed postmortem examination 15 randomly animals.
